Crimson Vixen to Silver Fox: Going Gray

Crimson Vixen to Silver Fox: Going Gray

It’s been a long time since I’ve had a post for you and I apologize for that. Life has been full of a lot of interesting changes! I just turned 50 which is (yikes!) a huge milestone. I made the decision to move back to California and follow my dream of being an actress. Hollywood is not known for being kind to 50-year-old women and I moved back to LA to pursue an acting career at an age when most women run screaming from it. Along that vein, I decided to embrace my age and not fight it. Most of the women that I know who are 50 years old are trying very hard to look 35. But if a movie or a TV commercial wants a 35-year-old there are plenty of real 35-year-olds so I decided to stop trying to look younger and to embrace my age. There is a shortage of 50 year old women who look 50 years old. Crimson Vixen to Silver Fox. Going gray is a business decision. I think it will lead to more work and that’s what I made the move for. To do the work that I love!

Society takes it’s cues from what is seen on our TV screens and movie screens. When the only gray hair seen on TV is on senior citizens, we automatically view gray hair as “old”. The only way to change that is to get people on TV and into movies that are young and vibrant with gray hair. That’s what I am here to do. I’m here to represent. Hopefully, to implement a change in how society views those of us with sexy, silver locks!

I’ve booked a few modeling jobs and TV commercials with my silver hair! How freaking cool is that?!?! You will be seeing me soon in ads for Perfect Pillow and Keranique Hair Treatment. It’s been slow on the movie front. It takes time to get people to see things in a different way. But I’ll get there!
Women really responded to my gray hair right away, asking me at auditions (the competition!) how I achieved the color. So my friend Mark Pirro helped me make a video showing how I do it. If I’d known in advance the reaction my hair was going to get, I’d have documented it from the beginning! I’ve added a few more videos and I have to say, I kinda like making my own little videos. I just shoot them on my iPhone and hope the cats keep quiet. You’ll have to forgive the random technical glitches that pop up. I’m still learning!
I signed up with Amazon as an affiliate so that these videos might generate a little income. So I’m going to be mentioning products in hopes that you choose to purchase them through the handy-dandy link I provide. I am disgustingly honest. Figure I might as well tell you in advance. Check out The Locksmith Boss. Hey! If all goes well, I might just be able to earn a living doing what I love and make a difference in other peoples lives. How awesome would that be? I went to my hairdresser and had him bleach my hair out as light as a possibly could. A harsh method, yes, but I have short hair and wasn’t too worried about damage. Then I toned it with Manic Panic Virgin Snow to a white color. I used the color right out of the jar and was really pleased with the result. After a bit, I decided I wanted more of a gray tone and toned with Manic Panic Blue Steel mixed 50/50 with Pastelizer. I walk you through it in the video! To maintain my silver tone I wash every other day with purple shampoo. When I’m feeling flush I spring for the Goldwell Dualsenses Unisex and Shimmer Lights when I’m more budget minded.

Purple shampoo will keep your gray looking more silvery than dull, try to wash with a purple shampoo every third shampoo. Don’t use it too often or hair can start to get a little lavender! Frankly, I like my hair a bit lavender so I hit it with purple conditioner, too! Texturizing pomade or paste is a great way to give a separated texture to hair that is much more popular and trendy right now. (Aveda is my favorite – love how fresh and clean it smells!) Going gray is freeing, but unfortunately, society still thinks of gray hair as old, so we have to work a little harder to keep it looking fresh and youthful to match our spirits! Sometimes you need a hairspray that will “stop a bird in flight” when styling your lovely silver locks.

Here’s the most recent film of mine to be released The Last House directed by my good friend Sean Cain who also directed me in his film Jurassic City. “After his girlfriend is kidnapped by a satanic trio of escaped mental patients, a young man must rescue her from a Hollywood home before their sadistic plans can be realized.” Guess what I play? Yup. Part of the satanic trio. Hope you enjoy the red and black hair and the tiger stripe tattoo!!
